Dimapur, Aug. 1: Two persons have died from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Dimapur, and 11 tested positive till date, according to health officials.
The Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur Vikato Kinimi said that the disease is being contained and out of the 11 tested positive, some have already discharged from the hospitals.
He said when a person is tested positive, ‘systematic steps’ are taken to trace the ‘history and background.’
“We are following scientific methods and studying the parasites that cause the disease around suspected areas,” informed the Kinimi. He maintained that there was no need for the public to panic.
The CMO also encouraged the public to keep their surroundings clean. “Everyone should keep their environment clean and use mosquito repellents,” he said.
Another reliable source from the Health department told Eastern Mirror that the cases reported in Dimapur were mostly patients from the neighbouring state of Assam who were diagnosed there but came to Dimapur for treatment. “It is very difficult to say that the statistics is from Dimapur alone as most of the patients have come from Assam,” informed the source.
“This is like any vector borne disease that occurs and affects people, and if precautionary measures are taken it can definitely be contained and prevented,” said the source.
