Kohima, May 26 (EMN): Rüziedzükhou, a traditional well located in Kohima village, received a facelift after many decades. The renovation of the well was initiated by Kenei Peli-9 of Tsütuonuomia Thinuo (T Khel), Kohima village, and was inaugurated on May 25.

Speaking at an inaugural programme, chairman of T Khel council, Thepfuvilie Suohu, said Rüziedzükhou is the most important out of the many wells in the village. The well has its own significance and earned itself a poem, he added.

Considering the problem of water scarcity in Kohima, the well served as an important source to its entire neighbourhood, he said. The chairman also urged to keep the well open for all to access and maintain cleanliness in the surrounding area.

He congratulated Kenei Peli-9 for taking the initiative to renovate the well. “Continue to work for the betterment of the society even in the days to come,” Suohu encouraged.

Convenor of renovation committee, Rüziedzükhou Khrietuo Belho, in his brief address, said renovation of the well has been a dream of the forefathers adding owing to financial constraints, the work was kept on hold.

A committee consisting of six members was selected to undertake the initiative, he added.

Apart from being just a well, the place also offers a sort of mini-park, where stone-sitters were put up for the people to spend their leisure time, said K Neibuo Sekhose, who spearheaded the renovation work.

The Kenei Peli-9 members consisted of 66 male, 73 female and 42 deceased members.
