Student shot in Dimapur; escapes with leg injury

Dimapur, Aug. 5: A student of Eastern Christian College (ECC) Dimapur was reportedly shot in the leg on Sunday night at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. According to sources, the incident occurred at around 9 pm when the victim and his friend were intercepted by the accused, identified as Puluto Awomi, on their way home. Awomi and his friend, Hekato were allegedly inebriated and harassed the victim and his friend.
When the victim questioned the unwarranted harassment, Awomi allegedly took his friend’s country made .22 pistol and fired twice, one of which hit the victim’s leg. The victim was later taken to the District Hospital Dimapur by his friends and is currently admitted at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a press release from Dimapur police on Monday informed that the prime accused, Puluto Awomi (24), has been arrested. “In this connection a case has been registered at East PS Dimapur and the arrested accused has been remanded to police custody for further investigation,” it informed.
