East Hartford, CT—The Town of East Hartford continues to closely monitor reopening and safety guidelines as a result of the pandemic.

The East Hartford Parks and Recreation Department is diligently working behind the scenes to offer some form of summer programming. As part of our planning process, we are reaching out to families of children who have attended our Summer Camp program in previous years to better understand and hear your family’s needs for the upcoming summer season. Please take a moment to fill out this survey to give our staff a better understanding of your needs and expectations for the summer www.surveymonkey.com/r/HBGTBSP. Please respond by Monday, June 8.

Our staff has been reviewing rapidly developing guidance and regulations from the CDC as well as the CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC), which specifically oversees the operation of summer camps.  Traditional camp programs, such as what we have offered in the past, are now regulated by new guidelines which would make it extremely difficult to operate this summer.  Some of these challenges include:

  • Each camp site/location may only allow a maximum of 50 children, and participants must be separated in groups of no more than 10 children and 1 counselor
  • Groups are not permitted to intermingle or participate in any activities together
  • Staff are required to perform daily health screenings at drop-off and pick-up, which would include a thermometer temperature check of both child and parent, along with a questionnaire that must be completed
  • Pick-up and drop-off times must be assigned to each family in order to conduct the health screens in an organized manner
  • Staff would also be required to participate in daily health screenings
  • Staff would be required to wear a mask at all times while working
  • It is recommended that children also wear masks during times when they cannot maintain 6-foot social distance from others
  • No field trips, bus trips, or other transportation would be provided
  • Pool usage for camp participants would not be permitted during camp hours
  • No decision has been made on what will happen with public pools

We are working hard to come up with options to keep our staff and participants safe in a reasonable manner while maintaining a fun camp atmosphere.  Your feedback will assist us greatly in continuing to plan and prepare for our programs around the current guidelines and restrictions in place. We appreciate your time and consideration.

Please continue to monitor the Town of East Hartford website and social media pages, including Town of East Hartford—Government and East Hartford Parks & Recreation  for information on additional summer activities as they become available.
