A POLICE speed camera van is set to be used on a stretch of road near Aberlady where there has been a number of serious crashes.
The East Safety Camera Unit is set to start a "short-term deployment" from April 1 until June 30 on the A198, west of Aberlady.
The vehicle will be in place to help enforce the 60mph speed limit on the road and reduce speeds in an area where there have been four collisions, which resulted in one death.
Andy Jones, East Safety Camera Unit manager, said: “The A198 is an extremely popular route, used by motorcyclists and cyclists.
"Due to the concerning number of collisions on this route, we will be enforcing in this area to encourage improved driver behaviour and compliance with the speed limit.”
Chief Inspector Stevie Duncan, outgoing East Lothian area commander, said: “Motorists driving above the speed limit are more at risk of losing control of their vehicle and have less time to react to changing conditions. The consequences of this can be fatal.
"We are simply asking drivers to adhere to the speed limit on this route, for the safety of all road users.”
