After Greggs blew up the Internet with their highly controversial and divisive vegan sausage roll, it's KFC's turn to ruffle a few carnivores' feathers.

KFC have revealed they are launching a vegan chicken burger - and no it's not just lettuce and bread.

With a growing number of customers switching to a plant-based diet, the fast food chain is taking steps to cater to everyone with the burger, which has replaced chicken with Quorn fillet.

It promises to retain that same iconic taste, coated in Colonel’s Original Recipe herbs and spices, plus lettuce and vegan mayo, all housed in a soft glazed bun.

The game-changing burger will initially be trialled for the first for four weeks in selected restaurants in London, Bristol and the Midlands.

Victoria Robertson, Chief Vegetable Enthusiast at KFC UK & Ireland commented: “We know… it’s unfair. Vegans have been cruelly denied the incredible taste of KFC up to now, which is why we’ve worked hard to perfect The Imposter – a vegan burger that the Colonel would be proud of.”

'Imposter' burger

However the burger, which has been dubbed the "imposter burger", has had mixed reactions and (to be honest) some people really aren't taking it well.

One said: "I just don't get this. Why? If you want vegan go to somewhere vegan. Will vegan places now sell chicken and burgers...I think not! Madness!"

Another said: "Why would any individual who is anti-meat eating want to consume something that resembles that they profess to dislike. Maybe it’s just me??"

Elsewhere one person warned "Don't tell Piers Morgan".

However others have celebrated the move, with a tweet from Quorn Foods UK announcing the new burger racking up over 1,000 likes.

One responded: "At last KFC finally wake up in the 21st century."
