Parts of the Lothians have been placed on flood alert with the Met Office warning of a "danger to life".

An amber weather warning will be in place for East Lothian and some areas in Midlothian from midnight tonight (Wednesday) to 3pm tomorrow.

Heavy rainfall is expected to cause flooding and some damage to buildings, while the Met Office add that "fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life".

They also say that there is a good chance some communities could become cut-off by flooded roads.

Driving conditions are expected to be more difficult than usual due to spray and flooding, and delays and cancellations are likely on bus and train services.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place for Edinburgh for the same period, with flooding of homes and businesses likely, interruption to power supplies and disruption to some public transport.

We reported earlier that the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) issued a flood alert for parts of Edinburgh and the Lothians.
