A £1.3 billion transformation of Granton Waterfront has been given the green light by the City of Edinburgh Council.
Illustrations of the proposed regeneration show ambitious plans to build 3,500 new homes as well as a brand new coastal park between Granton Harbour and Gypsy Brae.
Edinburgh City Council has approved the regeneration project in the hopes that it will be part of a wider initiative to provide more affordable homes in the capital.
The news comes as 250 new Taylor Wimpey homes were also approved by Edinburgh City Council in the west of the city - 25 per cent of which will be affordable housing.
According to the local authority, the £1.3bn transformation aims to be "one of Scotland's leading sustainable developments"
As well as new homes, the waterfront will seek to include new businesses, culture, learning, leisure and employment opportunities.
According to published plans 35 percent of the new homes will be affordable and will include sustainable transport links to the city.
The new waterfront will also be eco-friendly with priority given to walking and cycling – with car parking reduced by 25 per cent.
