Officers say that a 47-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being struck on the head at around 8.10pm on Thursday. The incident is said to have happened on West Richmond Street.

The victim suffered serious injuries and police are keen to speak to a man described as being white, in his 30s, of medium build and with short dark hair and stubble. He was pictured wearing a blue t-shirt, navy workman trousers with white fluorescent bands at the bottom of each leg, and blue work boots.

Detective constable Peter Gilzean of Gayfield CID said: “The victim attended hospital, where he was found to have sustained a serious injury, and an investigation has been ongoing since this time.
