Springfield, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Central Illinois Republican and Democratic leaders are split on a proposed progressive income tax system.
The amendment proposed by Governor J.B. Pritzker proposes to implement higher taxes on the state’s wealthiest individuals.
Republican state representative Dan Brady says there aren’t enough wealthy individuals in the state to reach the amendments projected revenue of more than three billion dollars.
Democratic State Senator Dave Koehler supports the plan, saying he believes it will increase the state’s revenue and that lower-income individuals won’t be taxed higher.
