KINGFISHER, Okla. — The roadway will narrow and lanes shift on Oklahoma 33 between U.S. 81 and 2nd Street for a pavement rehabilitation project scheduled to start Feb. 10, weather permitting.

Additionally, U.S. 81/Main St. will be intermittently narrowed between Oklahoma 33/Broadway Ave. and Sheridan Ave., which temporarily will impact on-street parking, according to Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Work generally will occur 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with some weekend closures as needed. Motorists are advised to expect delays and congestion in the area during these times and plan extra travel time through the work zone.

Motorists should start planning now to locate an alternate route for a full closure of eastbound and westbound lanes on Oklahoma 33 underneath the viaduct bridge between 6th Street and 2nd Street in late spring for up to 25 days. There is not enough room underneath the bridge to shift traffic while pavement repairs are being made.

Detour will be eastbound Oklahoma 33 to northbound U.S. 81 to eastbound Oklahoma 51 to southbound Oklahoma 74 to eastbound Oklahoma 33. Westbound travelers may take northbound Oklahoma 74 to westbound Oklahoma 51 to southbound U.S. 81 to westbound Oklahoma 33.

The $1.3 million project was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in June 2019 to Schiralli Construction Corp. of Wilson.

The project is expected to complete by early summer.
