The spring weather is set to take a turn tonight as thundery showers are predicted around the county.

The day has been largely dry and warm around Essex today (May 18), but that may be about to change.

The Essex Weather centre tweeted: "Heavy showers affecting Western districts of Essex over the next couple of hours. Risk of thundery downpours around Great Dunmow and The Rodings."

What's more, forecasters predict that we will continue to see showers throughout the day tomorrow. However, there will still be sunny spells and it will be a touch warmer.

The Met Office forecast states:

Evening showers dying away to become largely dry, with clear spells for many. However, areas of mist and fog are expected to develop later in the night, especially in the east. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Sunday:

Early fog becoming confined to the coast, where feeling cool. Some warm sunshine but a chance of showers elsewhere, particularly in the west where heavy and slow-moving. Maximum temperature 20 °C.
