A PASSENGER has described how a bus they were travelling on skipped through five red lights in one journey.

Horrific tales of people and their pets having near misses make up just some of the complaints sent in by Evening Times readers against drivers across the city.

The Busted campaign, launched earlier this week, hope to make city's streets safer with an end to dangerous and inconsiderate driving.

Readers have now welcomed our campaign to get bus companies to tackle bus drivers who run red lights and ignore road signals.

Maureen McDonnell, who travels into Glasgow from Paisley, has said she has had multiple problems on buses but is unsure who to complain to.

She added:"I'm a driver and am appalled at the standard which is apparent when the drivers run red lights, speed along Paisley Road West, brake very quickly or drive off before a very elderly passenger has had a chance to get near a seat.

"Only last week, my driver went through five red lights. Need I say more?"

Another regular bus user has also said that drivers running red lights is a common occurrence.

First Bus has already promised to investigate incidents of inconsiderate driving by its staff.

Ben Weir added: "I’m really glad you are taking this on with the bus campaign. I have repeatedly complained but nothing has ever been done. Not even a letter of apology, due to it being my word against theirs.

"On one occasion I pressed the button at a pedestrian crossing, the light turned red and the green man started beeping.

"I stepped out with my dog and immediately had to jump back onto the pavement because the bus was not slowing down and sped up to go through the red light."

Pedestrians have also raised concerns about the behaviour of some drivers.

David Proctor said: "I have noticed at least three times in the city centre where buses have gambled on red lights which infuriates me. Many times buses are actually early which is worse."
