Police cordoned off a Sheffield road after reports of another shooting in the city.

Myrtle Road was taped off by police after residents said they heard gunshots on Monday night.

It is thought that bullets were fired at a house opposite Wah Sing takeaway in Myrtle Road, Heeley, sparking concern among people living in the area.

Sheffield has recently seen a spate of shootings which are supposedly linked to gang-related drug crime and Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson for South Yorkshire Police has previously said his force is determined to put an end to this kind of violence.

South Yorkshire Live has contacted South Yorkshire Police for a statement about reports of a shooting last night and we will provide live updates of this ongoing incident in our live blog below.

Councillor makes statement after Myrtle Road shooting

After gunshots were fired in Myrtle Road last night, Cllr Ben Miskell, who represents Park & Arbourthorne, made a statement.

He said: “Many residents have been in touch to express their shock & frustration at this incident. During a global pandemic, this is last thing that people need as many families continue to self isolate & a number of vulnerable elderly people live in nearby properties. Their homes need to be a sanctuary.

“Incidents like this understandably make people worried, especially the most vulnerable. Those responsible need to understand the impact they have on everyone, including the most vulnerable.

“With Covid-19, the fear of leaving the house is hard enough for many people to deal with, without also having to worry about getting caught up in gun crime on your street. This has to stop!”
