Fire crews are still at the scene trying to bring a fire completely under control at a Sheffield waste site.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Arthurs Skip Hire and Waste Management in Parkwood Road just before 10pm last night.

Thick plumes of smoke and flames were seen pouring from the blaze.

Six fire crews were at the scene and were there for several hours overnight. Now just two remain and an investigation is set to be launched to determine the cause of the fire.

The smell of smoke has also travelled throughout Sheffield and residents are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed.

Statement from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Six fire engines have been called out to a large fire at a waste management site in Sheffield at 9:50pm on Thursday evening on Parkwood Road.

“Firefighters from Parkway, Central, Elm Lane, Tankersley, Aston Park and Barnsley stations are at the incident at Arthurs Skip Hire & Waste Management.

“Several piles of waste are on fire. Firefighters are using hose reels to tackle the blaze.

“There is a lot of smoke in the area so residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed until the smoke has cleared.

“Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for several hours.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once it is completely out.”
