Plans to decide the future of an infamous Sheffield home where two boys were poisoned and strangled by their parents has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

It has been just over a year since Blake Barrass, 14, and his younger brother Tristan, 13, died in the most horrific and tragic circumstances after Sarah Barrass and Brandon Machin cooked up a sickening plot to kill their children.

The incestuous half siblings, who are likely to spend the rest of their lives behind bars, concocted and tried to carry out the plan inside the four walls of Barrass' home in Gregg House Road, Shiregreen.

The two-bed semi-detached property was leased to Barrass, who lived there with her six children, by Sanctuary Housing and although it has been boarded up since, it stands as a visual reminder to the community of the shocking atrocity which happened on May 24, 2019.

Five windows have at the front of the property have been boarded up with metal shutters with another covered with a piece of wood.

EVIL: Sarah Barrass and Brandon Machin were jailed for life and must serve a minimum of 35 years

Earlier this year, there was a picture of Tristan and Blake pinned to the front of the house but this has since gone.

Instead, flowers - many of them fresh - have been tied to a piece of metal near the driveway to pay tribute to the boys whose lives have not been forgotten by those who knew them and those who were horrified by what happened to them.

Seeing the house on a day-to-day basis in Gregg House Road has understandable unsettled some members of the community.

Speaking earlier this year to the Huffington Post, Caitlin Pearson said she gets a "shiver down my spine whenever I walk past the house."

The 28-year-old, who has a four-year-old son at a school in the area, said: “Ideally, I’d like to see it knocked down, but I don’t think that will happen as it is attached to other houses.

“The whole tragedy has put a downer on the community and it is like a dark cloud has descended.

“We need positive vibes and to look out for each other to get through it. It has scared a lot of young people and opened their eyes to the fact that parents can be capable of terrible things.”

Houses belonging to infamous serial killers such as Fred and Rose West and moors murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady were both demolished and never replaced and questions have been asked about the future of Barrass' house in Gregg House Road.

Yorkshire Live asked Sanctuary Housing, who own the property, about the long-term future of the house and the Worcester-based housing association said the coronavirus lockdown has made it difficult to finalise plans.

However, it said it would provide an update on the future of the property in the near future.

A spokesman for Sanctuary Housing said: " While the restrictions in place across the country mean that it is taking longer that originally expected to finalise our plans, we are hopeful that in the near future we will be able to provide an update on the long-term future of this property.”
