Wakefield Road in Huddersfield is closed in both directions this morning after a crash.
The accident, which witnesses said involved a BMW and a motorbike, happened at around 7.30am at the junction with Rowley Lane.
Police have closed the main road into Huddersfield in both directions causing massive tailbacks.
While buses diveretd around the closure, traffic built up back to Grange Moor roundabout and Fenay Bridge in either direction.

With Wakefield Road, Rowley Lane and Knotty Lane all open again traffic has returned to normal.

All roads open again
All roads around the junction on Wakefield Road have opened again after the crash.
Traffic is back to normal.
Road is still closed
Wakefield Road is still closed in both directions as it stands. The police scene is still in place.
Motorists stuck on Wakefield Road for two and a half hours
Some motorists on Wakefield Road have been standing in stationary traffic for two and a half hours now.
Plenty of cars have done U-turns to avoid the queue but plenty haven’t and many HGV lorries aren’t able to.

The debris has been cleared from the scene of the crash now and our photographer on the ground says police are just clearing up an oil spill before the road can be reopened again.
Male motorbike rider seriously injured
A spokesperson West Yorkshire Police said a male motorbike rider has been seriously injured in the crash at the junction on Wakefield Road and taken to hospital.
They confirmed:
“We were called to Rowley Lane at 6.51am.
“It was a collision between a motorbike and a car.
“One injury - the male rider of the motorbike. It is still early doors but his injuries are believed to be at the lower end of serious.”
Roads could be closed for hours
Megan Abbs was walking to work along WaKefield Road when she was stopped by police at the junction where the crash happened. All four directions are closed at the junction and police on the ground told Megan it could stay that way for hours.
“All the roads are closed. Rowley lane at the top, the one across from it and where the crash is.
“It’s a BMW and a motor bike and the police said it could be closed for hours.
“It’s all taped off with police tape and police cars are there. They won’t even let people walk past, I walk up that way to work so I can’t go in it must be bad.”
Megan added that queues were being made worse by drivers attempting to do U-turns in Wakefield Road.
“Queuing towards the crash however people are turning around so the traffic is getting congested down to the Fenay Bridge/Chimney lane roundabout
“I can’t say for the other side of the crash as I couldn’t get through but I can imagine it’s quite bad as the road is usually really busy on a morning.”
Standstill traffic
There is standstill traffic on Wakefield Road both ways around the accident at the junction with Rowley Lane.
Witnesses say traffic that was heading towards Huddersfield has built up back to Grange Moor roundabout, while queues coming away from Huddersfield start in Fenay Bridge.
