Prince Philip FLOP: How the Duke of Edinburgh never got behind THIS British tradition

PRINCE PHILIP has been an official member of the British Royal Family since he married Queen Elizabeth II in 1947. But there’s one British tradition the Duke of Edinburgh never got behind.

Documentary reveals Queen and Prince Philip touching moment

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh officially joined the British Royal Family in 1947 when he married Princess Elizabeth, later Queen of England. The Queen’s husband was born into the Greek and Danish royal families, but has spent most of his life in Britain. In 1928, he was sent to the UK to attend Cheam School, and in 1939, aged just 18, he joined the British Royal Navy.

When Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II married on November 20, 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish royal titles and became a naturalised British subject.

Just before the wedding, Prince Philip was created Baron Greenwich, Earl of Merioneth and Duke of Edinburgh.

But shockingly for a British consort, the duke is reportedly not fond one of Britain’s most loved traditions.

In fact, a whopping 165 million cups are drank every day and 60.2 billion per year.

The Duke of Edinburgh also only consumes small amounts of alcohol and one biographer observed that he is partial to living a very healthy lifestyle.

John Kent, of the small Piccadilly firm Kent, Haste & Lachter, which has made the Duke’s suits for half a century, told The Telegraph in 2017: “He's got a fabulous physique.

“There's not an ounce of fat on him, which is why he wears his clothes so well.

“He's very well proportioned. He's got fairly long legs, and he doesn't carry much weight.'

Mr Kent said it’s unusual for his clients that measurements remains largely unchanged for decades.

He said: “He was a 31in waist when I first measured him, and he's now only a 34.

“That's incredible. I've never had to let out any of his clothes.”

Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty Magazine, also spoke of the duke’s physique and eating habits on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

She said: "He is a man who has always looked after himself and taken care of his body.

“He's someone who enjoys physical activity and he's incredibly physically fit.

“He's very careful about what he eats. If he puts on any weight at all, he will make sure he loses it.”
