The Duke and Duchess of Sussex teamed up to open their first Instagram account called @sussexroyal on April 2. The account gained an impressive 150,000 followers just minutes after royal fans caught wind that it had been set up. Their first post explained the account was for their loyal followers to keep up with their important announcements and charity work.

They said: “Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues.

“We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal. - Harry and Meghan.”

The couple are following 16 accounts that highlight mental health and projects dedicated to the field.

But they have now racked up an impressive eight million followers in a very short space of time.

The couple, who welcomed their first son Archie on May 6, originally shared the same Instagram account with Kate and Prince William.

But they parted ways with the @kensingtonroyal account after getting their own royal household staff.

The new household “ensured that permanent support arrangements for the Duke and Duchess’ work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage”.

Meghan and Harry have almost caught up to the Kensington Palace account, which has 8.7 million followers.

The Sussex Royal account has been a platform for royal fans to share their praise and support for the new parents.

When pictures of Prince Harry’s visit to Oxford were posted on Tuesday, some social media users shared their views on how he compared to his late mother, Princess Diana.

One person wrote in the comment section: “The people’s prince, Archie daddy we love you so much.”

Another added: “Keep making your mother proud and William as well.”
