Birmingham stabbing: Seriously injured man staggered into shopping centre to find help

A MAN has been left in a serious condition after being brutally stabbed near a shopping centre in Birmingham.

The victim, who has not been named by police but is in his 20s, managed to stagger to a nearby building at 6am this morning following the vicious attack by upmarket shopping an office complex the Mailbox, in Commercial Street. He told staff there he had been stabbed at nearby Holliday Street and was rushed to hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. The area around the crime scene was cordoned off with restrictions remaining in place this afternoon. A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police were called at just before 6am today (Sunday 17 February) to report a stabbing off Holliday Street, Birmingham city centre.

“A man in his 20s was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition. Enquiries are under way and CCTV in the area is being examined.”

Witnesses said the attack happened outside The Axis building where engineering firm WS Atkins is based.

Police also say it currently remains unknown how and where the man was subjected to the horror wounds.

Officers are making enquiries and CCTV in the area is being viewed.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 and quote incident number 613 of 17/2/19.

The attack follows a robbery that took place ten minutes away in Pershore Street, near the Arcadian Centre, also last night.

The incident took place at 11.20pm, with the victim, a male, telling officers he was approached by two men believed to have had a screwdriver they use to assault him with.

They took his phone and wallet and the man was left with head injuries.
