Armagh explosion: ‘Massive’ blast in Northern Ireland town, smoke billows from The Mall

A “MASSIVE explosion" has been reported in Armagh, Northern Ireland, sending smoke billowing across the town's skyline.

A “loud bang” was heard by neighbours in the area around The Mall at around 7am, according to reports. A video posted online shows plumes of smoke rising, but no sound can be heard. It was posted with the caption: “Massive explosion in Armagh, 7am”. 

Niall Rusk took to Twitter to share photos of a truck damaged by a fire.

Firefighters can be seen attending to the vehiclle parked on a street of residential homes and businesses.

He said: “Huge explosion in Armagh centre this morning near Domino's!”

TrafficWatch NI said The Mall West was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the blaze.

Reports suggest a gas explosion in the truck could have been behind the loud bang which woke people up. 

The cause of the fire is not known at this early stage. 

No injuries have been reported.
