EASTENDERS’ Jean Slater has had a difficult few months after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer but now she’s set to be hit with some sad news about her friend Daniel Cook.

Although they got off to a rocky start on EastEnders, Jean (played by Gillian Wright) has forged a friendship with fellow cancer patient Daniel (Ade Edmondson).

She met Daniel as she underwent chemotherapy for ovarian cancer earlier in the year.

In upcoming scenes on the BBC soap, Jean will prepare for her operation but she lies to her family about when it’s set to take place.

Not wanting them to fuss over her, Jean tells them it’s been postponed.

However, Daniel realises she isn’t telling the whole truth and reaches out to support her by distracting Jean.

Although it doesn’t quite go as planned and Jean senses there’s something amiss about Daniel so asks him what’s going on.

But Daniel doesn’t provide Jean with a direct answer and chooses to leave instead.

Jean is suspicious but soon Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) arrives to keep her company, promising she isn’t alone.

The operation gets underway, and once it’s over Jean is delighted as Kat gets Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) on the phone.

Jean’s good mood is short-lived however when Daniel finally opens up to her.

He reveals that his cancer has spread, but how will Jean cope with the devastating news?

She’s certainly in a vulnerable place following Stacey’s quick exit from Walford.

But hopefully the resilient Jean can get through potentially losing another person close to her.

Elsewhere on the Square, Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) ran out on her own wedding in last night’s episode.

Whitney decided she couldn’t live a lie with Callum Highway (Tony Clay) despite loving him.

In emotional scenes, Whitney told Callum she couldn’t let him continue to pretend and conceal his sexuality by hiding behind her.

She told him: “I want more, I deserve more and you deserve more.

“I know this is hurting you and I'm not going to watch you hurt anymore. I love you too much to let you hurt anymore."

When Callum asked what they should tell people, Whitney replied “the truth”.

However, with Callum clearly not ready to open up, it may be some time before he does.

EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.
