EastEnders spoilers: Could Whitney Dean reunite with Mick Carter amid Linda's struggles?

As EastEnders viewers know, Whitney’s (played by Shona McGarty) wedding to Callum Highway (Tony Clay) has come to a dramatic end.

But despite her fraught love life there could be more romance on the horizon for Whitney if she returns to old flame Mick (Danny Dyer) on the BBC soap.

Two years ago on EastEnders, Mick and Whitney were caught up in a brief affair as the pair shared several kisses and charged moments.

While it didn’t go much further, it was clear Whitney had fallen for him and Mick had feelings for her that were swiftly put to bed when his wife Linda (Kellie Bright) came back on the scene.

However, both recent and upcoming events could trigger a reunion for the two characters.

The programme has already announced that due to her family worries, Linda will hit the bottle as part of an alcoholism storyline.

It comes as Mick has had health worries of his own due to his anxiety, so as tensions rise in his house will he need someone to turn to?

Elsewhere, Whitney has currently gone off on her honeymoon alone but a nasty surprise awaits her back in the Square.

Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) has come back to the Square followed by Leo (Tom Wells), a man who turned out to be the son of the paedophile who targeted Whitney, Tony King (Chris Coghill).

He doesn’t believe that his father was guilty, claiming that Bianca and Whitney are liars.

When Whitney finds out about Leo and his motives she’s bound to be rattled as he will serve as a reminder of the man who subjected her to abuse.

As both she and Mick are thrust into difficult circumstances, will they find comfort in one another again?

The soap has revealed that Whitney will be leading a big storyline that is set to last over two years.

Executive producer Jon Sen said: “We talk often in the story office about Whitney and her troubled past, and her history with men, and her bad luck in relationships. Shona plays tragedy so well and Whitney is such a compelling character.

“She is a character you can give these really tough stories to, and she plays them with such beauty and conviction — and power. You err away from her being happy!

“When I joined, Kate and I had a conversation where we both said ‘We’re fascinated by Whitney. This enigma — this character with this past that we all know about — and the fact that she can never find happiness, and where do we go?’.

“We agreed that we wanted to push her to the front and centre of the show in terms of investing in that character.”

He continued: “This story becomes a chapter in a much longer arc that we have planned going forward. Without saying too much, this is just one more chapter in her story, but overtime — over the next 18 months — she learns from everything that you’re going to see, and going on into Christmas, and the 35th next year.”

Could Whitney’s big storyline involve Mick? Viewers will have to wait and see.
