EastEnders: Whitney thanks Gray for rescuing her

Whitney Dean (played by Shona McGarty) struggled to cope in the aftermath of Leo King’s (Tom Wells) death as the police pointed the finger at the trouble market trader. EastEnders viewers know she is innocent and Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) has been fighting her corner but could her ex-husband Lee Carter (Danny Hatchard) hold the key to Whitney’s freedom?

Leo tormented the market trader for weeks before secretly hiding out in her house and surprising her with a knife.

He intended on killing her but a struggle ensued where Leo ended up dying on her kitchen floor instead.

Gray asks Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) if they can shed some light on Whitney’s marriage to Lee.

Mick remains tight-lipped but Linda lets slip that Lee hit Whitney and Gray is understandably alarmed by the revelation.

Despite abusing wife Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer), Gray is able to separate the two issues and focus on using the information to build a case.

Lee last appeared in Walford over the Christmas period during a brief return but his mention could be a clue that he’s set to turn up again.

The former soldier apologised to Whitney for the breakdown of their marriage but the market trader wasn’t happy to see him.

If Lee hears from his parents what Whitney is going through, he may return and offer his support to his ex-wife.

Will he be able to save Whitney from prison or will Whitney’s feelings for Gray spiral out of control as he continues to be her main support?

EastEnders continues on Monday on BBC One at 8pm.
