But while Wales fans have called for Xhaka to be sent off for his part in the rumble, Brooks was also lucky to avoid red.

Xhaka and Brooks clashed in the first half of the game in Elbasan.

The match, played in torrid conditions, was locked at 0-0 when the incident occurred.

Xhaka tried to disposes Brooks and the pair came together on the turf as the ball ran away from them.

It initially appeared as though Brooks said something to Xhaka, who got up furiously and ran towards the Wales player.

Xhaka then puts his head into Brooks’ face and the Bournemouth ace is knocked back slightly.

The 21-year-old looks at the referee but Xhaka was not sent off over the incident.

Wales fans on social media called for Xhaka to have received a red card.

But replays suggest Brooks was also lucky not to be given his marching orders.

As the pair come together on the turf during the initial challenge, it appears as though Brooks swings a right arm into Xhaka’s face.

That was what angered the Basel player - brother of Arsenal midfielder Granit.

And Albania’s coaching staff were equally adamant that Xhaka had been caught by the Wales player.

Xhaka was then involved in a penalty incident for Albania, when he was brought down by Harry Wilson.

And Wales fans were furious the player was even still on the pitch.

“Xhaka shouldn’t even be in the pitch,” one supporter wrote on Twitter.

A second said: “Xhaka has been conning the referee all evening. The knowing wink when he went down was a clear sign that he bought the penalty.”

Another fan put: “Xhaka was the one making contact with Wilson, but whatever”

And a fourth commented: “Xhaka shouldn’t be on the pitch and he’s won a pen”
