Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has told new signing Kiko Casilla he is “crazy” for making the switch to the Championship this month.

A lack of opportunities at Real Madrid saw Casilla leave Spain earlier in the January transfer window in search of more first-team football.

However, upon his arrival in Yorkshire, Casilla recalls an interesting exchange with Bielsa.

"He [Bielsa] approached me, he greeted me and told me that I was crazy for having gone there," the goalkeeper told Onda Cera.

"They came to see me and then they told me what the project was, what the city was like, and in just a few days I decided to come."

Casilla made his debut in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Rotherham at the weekend and Bielsa was satisfied with his new arrivals’ performance.

"He didn’t have a lot of work to do. He had mid-distance finishing," the Leeds boss said.

"And he had some aerial game at the end of the game and from my point of view, it was very difficult to avoid the goal we conceded. He had a balanced performance."

Leeds transfer news - which deadline day deals could happen?

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds’ bid to sign Swansea winger Daniel James looks set to go down to the wire of tonight’s transfer deadline.

It is said the Whites have tabled an offer of £5million up front for the 21-year-old as part of a deal that could see future add-ons.

The Yorkshire publication also claims that James is keen to make the switch to Elland Road today.

The Wales international is thought to be the sole target on Leeds’ deadline day radar.
