Arsenal: Unai Emery addresses injury problems at the club

Arsenal have reached a critical stage of the season after dropping down to sixth in the Premier League table.

The Gunners have struggled for consistency in recent weeks and were put to the sword by Manchester City last weekend.

Arsenal travel to bottom side Huddersfield this weekend as they seek to get back to winning ways.

But boss Unai Emery has a long injury list to contend with ahead of the Terriers clash.

The biggest concern is over the fitness of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon striker has struggled with an illness this week and is uncertain to be ready for Saturday.

Alexandre Lacazette is primed and ready to lead the line in his absence, but Arsenal’s various injury problems could wreak havoc this weekend.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos is out for another couple of weeks with an ankle problem.

Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding remain long-term absentees with ACL injuries while Danny Welbeck is out indefinitely with a serious ankle issue.

Unai Emery quotes ahead of Huddersfield vs Arsenal

Emery told reporters: ”[Maitland-Niles] stopped for 10 days but physically I think he is okay.

“He was working with us well today and if tomorrow he is continuing with a good feeling, he can also be with us on Saturday.”

On Henrikh Mkhitaryan, he said: “We thought last week that with two training sessions after six weeks being injured, it was not enough to play against Manchester City.

“But after this week, playing with the under-23s and working with us, I think it is the first time I can think about him being with us.”
