11.20am UPDATE: Mauro Icardi latest

Mauro Icardi can leave Inter Milan this summer for just £43m, reports in Spain claim.

Icardi’s spell at Inter Milan is proving controversial with the striker on recently allowed back to training.

Icardi was stripped of the Inter captaincy six weeks ago following a stand-off with club chiefs over his future.

Inter are desperate for Icardi to sign a new contract that would delete a £90m release clause that will be active for two weeks only this summer.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Icardi is available for just £43.4m (€50m) in the summer.

And that will no doubt catch the attention of suitors Real Madrid and Manchester United.

10am UPDATE: Philippe Coutinho to Liverpool not happening

Liverpool would not be able to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona if he was to leave the club this summer - simply because Barca would refused to be made to look stupid.

That’s the claim of ESPN’s Barca correspondent Samuel Marsden.

Speaking of the player’s struggles on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red podcast, Marsden explained: “The longer this goes on the more feasible that Barca would accept an offer.

“The problem is they paid so much for him, and have invested so much into him, that they don’t want to take a big hit.

“At the moment the official line is he’s not for sale.

“But unofficially there are whispers that if Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich or whoever it may be, came in during the summer and tested Barcelona with a bid, maybe of around £100m, then maybe the club would think now is the right time to cut their losses.

“As for Liverpool, I don’t have any insight from their point of view, but if they did come in with a bid it would almost be like Barca would be put off by selling him back to the club where they bought him from.

“Even if Liverpool were to match the same price that another club was prepared to pay, it almost feels like Barcelona would have been had off.”

9.30am UPDATE: Rio Ferdinand wants Jadon Sancho at Man Utd

Rio Ferdinand wants to see Jadon Sancho at Manchester United.

He told Goal: ”I have known Jadon since he was a kid, knew him through friends. I have known his family since he was a kid, before he was even born.

“He has got the mentality. The mentality is a big part of it all, whether he has the physical attributes or not.

"The kid's mentality, to leave Manchester City, who wanted him to stay, to just say, 'My ability deserves it and I think I can do it straight away, right now. I am not waiting'.

"And he has gone and done that. You have to respect that.

"So if someone asked me whether I would take Jadon Sancho, with all due respect to Borussia Dortmund, I would say yes, 100 per-cent.

"I would take him [at Manchester United] all day.

"English, young, hungry and talented, that's all I need to know."

Stephan Lichtsteiner is not sure if he will be an Arsenal player next season.

“This will need time. The fact that I play at a top club at the age of 35 says enough. There have been talks [with Arsenal]. We have to see if it suits both sides,” he told Neue Zurcher Zeitung.

“Arsenal is a big club, I feel very happy. But I want to play regularly with regard to the European Championships.

“It was okay this year. But if the coach says that he no longer counts on me, I have to worry.”

“There were negotiations with Napoli, but something strange happened, and you know in the transfer market things can change from one moment to the next.

“Negotiations are long and complicated processes, so it can happen than they don’t go the way we expected.

“There was this opportunity to go to England and Lucas took it, so I have to say he is happy at Arsenal.

“Obviously, Lucas is very fond of Italian football, where he grew up, and might return to Italy in future.

“You can never say never, so it’s possible he could come back to this marvellous country and, why not to Napoli or another club that makes an offer?”
