LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp is trying to implement a winning DNA at Anfield - and that is why he and his team celebrated the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea so emphatically.

Liverpool: Klopp is trying to get winning into their DNA says Nicol

That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundits Craig Burley and Steve Nicol.

Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties in Istanbul on Wednesday after the match ended 2-2 following extra time.

Jurgen Klopp and his team enjoyed the celebrations on the pitch afterwards, sparking a mixed reaction from some fans on social media.

But both Burley and Liverpool legend Nicol believe Klopp is trying to instil a mentality of winning at Anfield.

He wants his time at Liverpool, however long that is, to be the biggest success it can be

Craig Burley on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Klopp won his first piece of silverware as Liverpool boss in June when they beat Tottenham in the Champions League final.

“I just think Klopp is trying to get this Liverpool team in the mentality of trying to win everything,” Burley said on ESPN FC,

“Like [Nicol’s] halcyon days when he was there, just wiping teams away.

“The winning habit is a good habit whether it’s on penalties or four or 5-0.

“I think that’s the thing with Klopp.

"He wants his time at Liverpool, however long that is, to be the biggest success it can be.

“If he can add a Premier League title to this, and more importantly the Champions League, then that’s what he’s all about.

Nicol says Klopp’s celebrations was a message to football fans who have doubted his trophy-winning credentials.

“Do you think he’s thinking about ‘I hope all these people that said I can never win a final are queuing up to congratulate me’?” Nicol said.

“I think so, yeah [Klopp is trying to build a winning DNA], absolutely.

“Once it’s in there, I’ll tell you what, it’s a formidable thing to carry around with you.

“But I’ll tell you what though, losing, it does the same thing the other way round.”
