The one Liverpool player playing as well as he ever has under Jurgen Klopp - Redknapp

LIVERPOOL winger Sadio Mane is in the best form he has ever been in at Anfield.

Liverpool: Sadio Mane hands ballboy a shirt after Super Cup

That’s the belief of former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp.

The winger supplied a moment of brilliance in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.

With Liverpool set to enter the half-time interval all square, Mane curled a stunning effort into the far top corner to put the visitors 1-0 up despite a poor first-half display.

The Merseyside outfit went on to claim maximum points and continue a perfect start to the Premier League campaign as Mane also laid on Roberto Firmino’s second-half strike.

For Mane, it marked his third goal in two games having scored a brace as Liverpool won the UEFA Super Cup last week, beating Chelsea on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

The Senegal international had a career-high 26-goal campaign last term, with 22 strikes in the league seeing him share the Premier League Golden Boot with team-mate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And his strong start to 2018-19 means Mane now boasts 62 goals and 23 assists across all competitions in 126 games for the club, despite operating in a wide position rather than as a central striker for the vast majority of those matches.

So impressed is Redknapp by his output, he believes Mane is staking a claim to be Liverpool’s go-to forward over Salah, who has supplied a phenomenal 72 goals and 30 assists in 108 games over his two years at the club.

“Sadio Mane is making a great case to be considered Liverpool’s main man above Mohamed Salah,” Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“The 27-year-old is producing magic on the pitch and would walk into any team.

“He showed that against Southampton, scoring a screamer then setting up Roberto Firmino to confirm the 2-1 win.

“The statistics highlight his impact. No one has scored more Premier League goals than him [Mane] in 2019.

“He took his tally to 15 on Saturday, and not a single one of those has come from the penalty spot.

Liverpool: Klopp praises side after Southampton victory

“In Liverpool’s last 30 games, Mane has scored 20 goals, Salah has put away 12 and Firmino eight.

“It is three years ago this week that Mane made his league debut for Liverpool, scoring the fourth goal in a 4–3 win at Arsenal.

“He is now performing as well as he has ever done under Jurgen Klopp.”

Klopp will hope Mane can maintain his rich vein of goalscoring form when Arsenal visit Anfield on Saturday (5.30pm).

Mane boasts four goals and one assist in six appearances for Liverpool against the Gunners, with three of those goals coming on home soil in 3-1, 4-0 and 5-1 wins.
