British tourists were warned the cost of is on track to increase to help the Government address the risks poses. Independent peer Bryony Worthington has suggested "the era of cheap flights is over" as holidaymakers have to prepare to pay for "the real cost" of in the face of changes in the global weather. Speaking to Channel 4 news, Baroness Worthing said: "This is going to be an issue that runs and runs because it’s so close to such a large group of people you have to think this is going to be a totemic fight.

"There is a bigger fight we need to fight, which is about getting the whole sector to take this issue seriously.

"Cheap flights, that era is over. We have to start paying for the real cost of those flights."

"We need to acknowledge that with warmer temperatures runaways are going to have to be constructed differently.

"We are going into a future where the consequences of climate change are going to be felt economically."

But some say the phase-out is too late to protect from climate change, and others fear that the task is impossible.

The Government’s advisory Committee on Climate Change recommended the net zero target in a report in May.

The report said if other countries followed the UK, there was a 50-50 chance of avoiding the catastrophic rise of more than 1.5C by 2100.
