Children and young people in Wolverhampton will be able to get stuck in with more than 300 activities during the school break.

Crowds of school pupils have already enjoyed a string of sporty sessions in the sunshine as part of Wolverhampton Council's Summer Squad initiative.

Councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Summer Squad is certainly capturing the imagination of our children and young people and it's great to see so many people joining in the fun - in particular by getting out and about in our parks and green spaces and enjoying the summer sunshine.

"But it's not all outdoors - there are also some fantastic events at our galleries and museums and libraries, while groups across the city have organised a wide range of wonderful activities for children and young people of all ages.

“In fact there's so much going on that there’s sure to be something for everyone, no matter what you are interested in or where you live."

More than 300 activities are planned for the coming weeks including arts and crafts, holiday clubs, sports and games, family fun days and science workshops.

Sessions are set to take place throughout the summer at West Park, Ashmore Park, Heath Town Park, Hickman Park and Tettenhall Rock.

This week, hundreds of children have been enjoying the good weather by taking to the city's parks for the Summer Squad activities.

Energetic youngsters got involved with sports, games, football, science and yoga sessions at The Way Youth Zone.

More than 100 people attended the first event at West Park on Monday, with dozens more joining in the fun at Ashmore Park on Tuesday.

The council's strengthening families hub has also organised an extensive Play in the Park programme, with activities including parachute games, den building, ball games, water play, obstacle courses and a range of arts and crafts.

The Play in the Park activities are designed to boost confidence, encourage teamwork and develop new skills and for children aged five and over, with under 5s welcome with an adult.
