Two men, aged 18 and 19, and two 15-year-old boys, were arrested after a 22-year-old man was knifed in the back outside The Outback on Queen Street, at around 4.20am.

Detectives are scouring CCTV and appealing for anyone with information to come forward as the investigation gathers pace.

The victim, who suffered a single stab wound, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police say they believe the stabbing was a targeted attack. A cordon was up outside the nightclub, which was formerly Walkabout, following the attack.

Detective Sergeant Neil Bason from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: "We believe this was a targeted attack with no threat to the wider public, but we’ll be deploying extra officers to the area to give reassurance over the weekend.

Forensic

“At present our inquiries are ongoing and officers are in the area carrying out CCTV and forensic investigations.

“Although we have four people in custody in connection with the attack, I must stress our investigation is very much in the early stages and anyone with information should contact us.”

Chris Sheldon, from H&T Pawnbrokers on Queen Street, said: "It isn't a surprise to me. We had a CCTV request from the police a couple of weeks ago for a guy with a machete.

"Every other day it seems something is happening. It's not good, is it."

Paul Beresford, who owns The Pet Shop, opposite The Outback, said: "The police were here when I came in this morning. I just presumed it was another stabbing.

"It doesn't come as a surprise to me, it's a sign of the times unfortunately.

"It's sad but knife crime does seem to be becoming more prevalent."
