Three reports of purses and wallets being stolen in Lichfield were made to police in two days and now officers have warned shoppers to watch out.

The thefts took place on July 29 and 31.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Please take extra care when you are out and about shopping in Lichfield.

"Police have received a further three reports in two days regarding purses/wallets being stolen whilst members of the public have been out shopping.

"Unfortunately these offending individuals purposely target the elderly and will ensure they actively pursue them until they have taken their belongings, which have a devastating impact on the victim - not only cash/cards are taken but photos which have sentimental value also.

"Please ensure that handbags are closed and worn in front of your body and where possible wallets to be secured in front pockets of clothing.

"Please report any suspicious individuals to Staffordshire Police on 101 or 999 in all emergencies."
