Thirty more coronavirus hospital deaths in the Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham

A further 30 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

The latest NHS figures show that 2,294 people have now died from Covid-19 in hospitals across the region.

In England, the death toll now stands at 25,691 after a further 147 coronavirus deaths in hospitals were reported yesterday.

A breakdown of the figures show thirteen hospitals deaths were reported in the Black Country.

But all of these were reported at the Walsall NHS Trust, which runs Manor Hospital, taking the death toll to 205.

In Staffordshire, four new deaths were reported at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital, taking the total to 290.

Twelve new deaths were reported at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust - which runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals - taking the toll to 896.

One new death was reported at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust taking the toll there to 35.

No new reports were received in Sandwell, Wolverhampton or Dudley.

The figure at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, remains at 336.

At Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, the figure remains at 262.

And at Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, the figure remains at 245.

A spokesman for the NHS said: "A further 147 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,691.

"Patients were aged between 43 and 98 years old. Five of the 147 patients - aged between 46 and 84 - had no known underlying health condition.

"Their families have been informed."

Seven more coronavirus patients died in Wales, taking the total to 1,267.

In Scotland the death toll rose by nine to 2,270.

In Northern Ireland one more coronavirus patients died, taking the total to 506.

Meanwhile the toll for coronavirus deaths at care homes in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire stands at a total of at least 487.

The care home death figures, which are released on Tuesdays, are only available for dates from April 10 to May 15 so far.
