Arriva Midlands will be implementing changes to services from June 29, which will see route 61 and 61a between Cannock, Wimblebury, Boney Hay and Lichfield axed due to low passenger numbers.

At the end of last year it was announced that buses will no longer run directly to County Hospital from Cannock as of January.

The alterations will see timetable and route changes across eight services.

Simon Mathieson, area managing director for Arriva Midlands North: “What we have done is to look at areas where we can improve operationally and make the necessary alterations which will not only better match the service level needed, but also ensure our customers are able to benefit from more punctual, reliable services, linking the areas they most need to get to, at the times they need to travel.

"Whilst this will see some reductions in, or withdrawal from service where passenger levels are low, we will also be introducing a number of new journeys where feedback has indicated they are needed.

“We continue to be committed to reinvesting in key routes and communities where buses provide vital and necessary connections, and in an age where there is an ever greater number of travel options for our customers, we are determined to make sure we are listening and responding accordingly to deliver a strong network that is both fit for purpose and able to evolve.”

Frequency will be improved on routes 1 between Cannock and Walsall and 60/60a between Cannock and Lichfield, while route 2 between Huntington and Walsall is being extended beyond Cannock, and the number of journeys on route 3/3a between Cannock and Walsall will be increased from three a day to every hour.

Route 61/61a between Cannock and Lichfield is being withdrawn and transport into Cannock from Hawks Green (Gorsemoor Road) and Heath Hayes (Langholm Drive) will be available on route 3, while route 62 will serve Wimblebury and routes 60/60a will serve Chasetown and Burntwood.

The service from Cannock on 62/62a/62s will now terminate at Cannock Wood/Prospect Village, with more connections available to Lichfield on routes 60/60a from Cannock Bus Station every 15 minutes.
