People urged to submit lockdown art in Wolverhampton for online exhibition

Wolverhampton Art Gallery has made the call along with libraries in the city – with potential submissions including music, writing, paintings and drawings.

The exhibition has been inspired by Wolverhampton-based artist and illustrator Ed Issacs who is capturing scenes of daily life in lockdown.

Councillor Harman Banger, cabinet member for city economy, said: "During this time art has provided a welcome escape for many.

"We have seen a number of pieces created by members of the public that have captured our beautiful city and reflected how people have coped during the lockdown, with all of the challenges that has brought including home schooling, isolation, working from home or losing a loved one.

"As a city we want to share these experiences with others and I hope this exhibition will highlight how Wolverhampton has been proactive and how we have come together during this time."

It will be showcased in the exhibition Art in Lockdown – with people being called on to send a high-resolution image, or audio recording, to art.gallery@wolverhampton.gov.uk by May 31.

Residents should include their name, a short description and where the piece was created – with a team grouping the entries into age categories.

Anyone who lives, works, or studies in the city can enter.

People will be informed if they have been selected, with the exhibition hosted at one of Wolverhampton Council's venues after lockdown.
