Readers in the city made their application to get hold of the latest best-selling eBooks and Audiobooks – with over 3,700 titles being downloaded.

It comes as Wolverhampton's 16 libraries remain closed due to coronavirus, prompting services to move online.

Councillor Harman Banger, Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for city economy, said: “Although our city’s 16 libraries are currently closed the service is continuing to play a vital role in supporting people during the coronavirus emergency.

"It’s great that we are able to continue to provide so many ways for people to engage in a love of reading at this time."

Books can be borrowed via BorrowBox through any IPhone, Android phone, tablet or computer – with an online reading group available for people to discuss the titles.

And more than 1,200 people have used the virtual librarian service, which sees staff answer people's queries online.

Rhyme times and a new craft time for babies has moved online – with a new story posted on social media each Tuesday, with sing-along rhymes each Friday.

People can discuss books through the library's Facebook and Twitter accounts.
