Organisers say they have decided to close nominations for the award, which will return in 2021.

All nominations received for this year's award will be carried over to next year.

Young Citizen chairman Roger Timbrell, from Tettenhall Rotary Club, said: "In view of the prolonged coronavirus emergency, it has been decided to cancel the 2020 Wolverhampton Young Citizen of the Year competition.

"All nominations received before the closing date of May 31 will be carried forward to next year's competition when their good citizenship achievements will be recognised."

The award is run by Wolverhampton's Rotary clubs and recognises the efforts of young people in the city who go that extra mile to help others.
