Emergency roadworks cause two-mile queues in Wolverhampton
Motorists have been facing long queues due to emergency roadworks on a key route in Wolverhampton.
Traffic is being affected in the west of the city, with two-mile queues reported during rush hour this morning.
Temporary traffic lights have been installed on three roads in Compton due to gas works.
One disgruntled motorist told the Express & Star: "I left the house early as I'd read about these temporary traffic lights popping up. But a normal 20-minute journey to work in the city centre, took me well over an hour!
"The traffic was backed up a good two-miles along the Bridgnorth Road from where the lights are situated in Compton.
"It wasn't that long ago that there were roadworks in the same place causing havoc."
The temporary traffic lights - on Bridgnorth Road, Compton Road West and Finchfield Hill - will be in place until next Friday.
Cadent Gas is carrying out the urgent repair work.
Wolverhampton Council tweeted: "EMERGENCY ROAD WORKS: 3-way Temporary traffic signals on Compton Road West / Finchfield Hill / Bridgnorth Road due to Cadent Gas works between 29/01/2018 - 08/02/2019."
