There was very little to separate either team until the 35th minute when a chance opened up for Lancaster which saw Rob Wilsons’ cross punched down to Ryan Winder, but he shot well over.

Rangers went down to 10 men towards the end of the first half after Andy Haworth was shown a straight red card for an apparent kick out at City skipper Simon Wills.

The second half was equally as tight with Steve Williams coming closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts on the hour through a whipped in corner but just evaded him at the back post.

City went close again on the 70th minute when Winder beat the defence and rounded the goalkeeper before putting the ball into the side-netting.

Five minutes later a Cole Lonsdale cross found Tom Kilfin at the back post but he also failed to find the target as the game ended goalless.
