Dulwich Hamlet 3, Truro City 2

IT was yet more heartbreak for Truro City as the White Tigers fell to a 3-2 away defeat at fellow strugglers Dulwich Hamlet in the National League South, writes Cameron Weldon.

Coming off the back of a disappointing 1-3 home reverse to East Thurrock United last time out, City headed to the capital with eight first-team players out.

With a much depleted squad the game started off slowly with neither side able to create anything to threaten each other’s goals.

Jason Banton, playing against his former side, had Truro’s best chance with a volley that went just over the bar.

Up the other end, Dulwich took their chance when it came. Dipo Akinyemi was the man to finish off from close range to put the home side ahead.

Michael Herve was then sent off after a late tackle just before the break meaning the White Tigers had to play the remainder of the game with ten men.

Things went from bad to worse in the opening stages of the second half as the home side doubled their lead two minutes in thanks to a brilliant strike from Nathan Ferguson.

Out of nowhere Truro got one back as Alex Battle tried his luck from distance and his effort proved to strong for Edwards in the Hamlet goal.

Truro were then reduced to nine men when skipper Jamie Richards was shown his second yellow for dissent.

Despite being two men down the White Tigers drew level with ten minutes to play. Dominic Vose pushed Banton in the box and was given a straight red card. Connor Riley-Lowe stepped up calmly slotted his penalty away to equalise.

Despite battling back from 2-0 down to level all of Truro’s hard work was undone with five minutes left to play. A brilliant solo run and finish from Luke Wanadio put the hosts back in front and subsequently gave them all three points.

Truro return to Cornwall empty handed and now sit just four points clear of the National League South relegation places. They have a week to recover before they welcome Chelmsford City to Treyew Road.
