Three USAC Speed2 Midget events from two different series, Midwest Thunder and DMA, are in action this Friday and Saturday, August 9-10.
Three USAC Speed2 Midget events from two different series, Midwest Thunder and DMA, are in action this Friday and Saturday, August 9-10.
On Friday, August 9, on the red clay of Bloomington’s quarter mile, it’s the Salute to Mike and Judy Miles. The event is open to D2 and Midgets. Series point leader Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio) was victorious in the MTM portion of the event in May at Bloomington. Chett Gehrke (Broken Arrow, Okla.) was the winner of the most recent series race last Friday at Gas City.
Along with midgets and a firework extravaganza presented by Curry Auto Center, a $3,500-to-win sprint car show is on the card along with the $2,000-to-win, $200 to start Rod Harris Memorial UMP Modified feature, and the Indiana RaceSaver Sprint Cars.
Pits open for Bloomington at 3pm Eastern, grandstands at 5pm and racing at 7pm. Adult general admission tickets are $15, students with valid ID are $10, 12 and under are free. HARF members receive a $5 discount. Pit passes are $30 apiece.
On Saturday, August 10, the Midwest Thunder Midgets travel north to Indiana’s Montpelier Motor Speedway. Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio) and Alex Watson (Columbus, Ohio) have won each of the two series races this year at the quarter-mile dirt oval.
MTM will be joined by UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars and FWD Compacts. Gates open at 3pm Eastern, hot laps at 5pm and racing at 6:30pm. Adult general admission tickets are $15 and kids 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
Further to the east on Saturday night, August 10, DMA returns to Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. for the eighth time this season. Series point leader Will Hull (Plainfield, Vt.) has won on three occasions at Bear Ridge, Seth Carlson twice and once each by Adam Whitney and most recently by Mike Chaffee two weeks ago.
Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, C.A. Miller Limited Late Models, Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders and Granite State Mini Sprints join the DMA Midgets. Pits open at 3pm, gates open at 3pm and racing at 6pm. Adult general admission tickets are $10, students 12-17 are $8, seniors 62+ are $8 and kids 11 and under are $2. Pit passes are $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
