A Texas man accused of stealing a yellow Dodge Charger from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Cocoa in April is now incarcerated at the Brevard County Jail Complex.

John Gross, 49, of Bastrop, Texas, was booked at the jail Thursday. He remains jailed on $15,000 bond for grand theft of a motor vehicle.

In April, Enterprise Rent-A-Car surveillance video footage showed Gross walking behind the front counter and stealing keys to the Charger, which was valued at $26,700, an arrest affidavit said.

Cameras showed Gross driving the muscle car through the front gate that evening, the affidavit said.

An employee later told a Brevard County Sheriff's Office investigator that Gross had a car rental reservation, but his credit card had been declined. The employee said Gross told him he was staying at a hotel and was trying to get his girlfriend out of jail, the affidavit said.

Bastrop is a small city about 30 miles southeast of Austin.

An early resolution hearing is scheduled for Dec. 12 at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.
