A piece of the proposed Rays stadium site in Ybor will become a film studio

The way movie producer Kristian Krempel sees it, Ybor City didn’t lose out on an opportunity to become the home of the Tampa Bay Rays when the stadium deal fell through in December. Rather, he said, Ybor gained an opportunity to be to independent film what Seattle was to the underground music scene that spawned the grunge era.

And he is willing to lead the charge.

“We are going to create an infrastructure here,” Krempel said. “Ybor will be a place where movies get made.”

His partner on the venture is fittingly a Seattle resident, Dan Myrick, best known as director of The Blair Witch Project. More from Tampa Bay Times.

Pensacola-based steel drum maker one of only a handful of makers in nation

Alan Coyle has perfected the evocative and distinctly Caribbean sound of the steel drum — but not as a player. Coyle’s Pensacola manufacturing shop turns out about 300 steel drums annually that sell for $2,500 to $6,000 apiece. His shop is one of only a handful of steel drum makers in the U.S. Originating in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 20th century, the steel drum is “a happy sound, very much equated with the beach life,” says Coyle. Burmese python data shows miles, tons of snakes captured in southern Everglades system

Burmese pythons may be the kings of creepy-crawly in a state packed with all sorts of sordid critters. In recent decades, they have expanded from a small population in the southern Everglades to the Naples area and even as far north as Lake Okeechobee. Everything is potential prey: from relatively small wading birds and rabbits to large deer and even alligators. More from Florida Today.

How to price your product or service

There are a number of pricing options, depending on the type of product or service being offered. We will discuss several in this article: cost-plus pricing, competitive pricing, rate or project based pricing, tiered pricing and decoy pricing. Regardless of which strategy you choose, the price you charge should recover both your direct and indirect costs of operation, plus a margin of profit. Read Gray Poehler's full column here.

Trademarks or Service Marks

A trademark or service mark is important to a business that is trying to protect a name, design, slogan or any combination thereof. It is used to identify and distinguish a party’s goods or services from any other’s providing or rendering the same goods or services in the marketplace. They can be considered one of the most important assets of a business since they are readily associated with a business’s reputation and goodwill.

“Trademark” is the term used to identify a mark which is being used in connection with a tangible product (i.e., shoes, soda, apparel, etc.).

A “service mark” is the term used to identify a mark that is being used in connection with a service (i.e., carpet cleaning, plumbing, auto repair, etc.).

Falcon Heavy rocket set to attempt SpaceX’s ‘most difficult launch ever’

Space-XMission critical to demonstrating several capabilities for the US Air Force. SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket will attempt its most technically demanding mission yet on Monday night, with a rideshare flight organized by the US Air Force. Company founder Elon Musk has characterized the mission as "Our most difficult launch ever." During this Space Test Program-2 flight, the world's most powerful operational rocket will attempt to deliver 24 different payloads into three different orbits, resulting in multiple re-lights of the Merlin 1D engine powering the rocket's second stage. It is a critical mission for SpaceX and its Falcon Heavy rocket for a few reasons. First of all, this is the first time the Air Force has flown payloads on a Falcon Heavy rocket. And while this mission will not be carrying anything critical to national security—such as large satellites valued at $1 billion or more used for observation, communication, or other purposes to advance the national interest—Air Force officials will be watching closely.
