Chris Kavanagh will be the man in the middle when Arsenal travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

Currently unbeaten in their previous 21 games ahead of Thursday night's Europa League game against Qarabag, Unai Emery will be confident that the Gunners can extend their good run of form.

The fact that the Lancashire official will be referee will also give the Spaniard hope that they can register another crucial three points in the race for the top four.

Taking charge of his first Premier League game back in the 2016/17, Kavanagh has only been in charge of two Arsenal league fixtures.

Registering a brilliant 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates at the start of the year, Kavanagh was the official for the 3-1 win over Leicester City two months ago.

Clearly making a big impression having been handed the Merseyside derby at the start of the month, it appears that there will be a very good chance of the official brandishing his cards on the South Coast.

Kavanagh has so far shown a total of 32 yellow cards in his 10 Premier League games this campaign, including five apiece in his last two games.

Referee Chris Kavanagh

The referee has officiated in one Southampton league game this season and that finished in a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United back in October.

Daniel Cook and Sian Massey-Ellis will assist Kavanagh at St Mary's, with Graham Scott the fourth official.
