Samir Nasri missed out for West Ham for Saturday's 2-2 draw against Leicester City as he continues to struggle for fitness after signing for the club in January.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has previously admitted it it was a risk in taking on the Frenchman having not played for the previous 18 months but the boss got his way and the 31-year-old penned a six month deal until the end of this season.

However, Nasri has suffered three separate calf muscle injuries in the last four and a half months which has restricted him to just six appearances for his employers and is wrecking his chances of earning another contract.

This weekend will be the sixth game he has missed thanks to injury and the latest one was picked up during the half time warm up of the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea a a fortnight ago when he was set to come on at the break.

Nasri had only just returned to the squad having been forced out of the defeat to Everton with the same problem and hasn't started a game for West Ham since the 1-0 defeat away at Manchester City on February 27 - and he only lasted the first half of that one.

Cardiff's Aron Gunnarsson is challenged by Samir Nasri

He played half an hour in the defeat to Cardiff and another 30 minutes in the victory over Huddersfield in March, he made a massive difference in the latter.

Pellegrini was asked by football.london if the signing of Nasri had backfired after being ruled out yet again but the boss deflected the question, simply saying: "I hope that we can see him again this season."
