This Luxe Washington, D.C. Hotel Is One Of A Limited Number Of Locations Showcasing The Ultra-Exclusive Macallan 72

This article is more than 4 years old.

With only 156 bottles available in the United States, the word “rare” doesn’t even begin to describe the exclusivity of The Macallan 72. The ethereal spirit is the oldest whisky to be released from The Macallan distillery, but if you know where to look you might just be able to catch a glimpse of this luxe whisky.

Although The Macallan 72 is in fact a rare spirit, The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C. recently managed to acquire a bottle of the whisky. The bottle is fittingly stored at The Vault, which is located inside of the luxury hotel’s Quadrant Bar & Lounge. A special code is then required to access The Vault and The Macallan 72.

Keeping with the luxury, the whisky is presented in a crystal decanter handcrafted by French glassmaker, Lalique. While the spirit is available to guests for viewing, it is unfortunately not available for sampling.

Mendenhall describes the acquisition of The Macallan 72 as just one of several ways the bar and lounge pushes the boundaries of mixology.

“As the whisky market grows in the United States, Quadrant Bar & Lounge and The Macallan continue to pursue excellence in how the spirit is shared, presented, experienced and celebrated,” said Chris Mendenhall. “Our program is all about pushing the boundaries of mixology and ensuring we are at the forefront of what’s next, and we are thrilled to grow our prestigious offerings with the addition of The Macallan 72 to our rare reserves.”

According to ScotchWhisky.com, a bottle of the 72-year-old whisky is priced at $60,000 and is described as “a celebration of the collaboration of masters from across the fields of whisky, crystal, architecture, construction and craftsmanship.”

Once you’ve enjoyed the experience of viewing The Macallan 72, Quadrant Bar & Lounge offers a number of more moderately priced whiskeys and spirits. On their nearly 90-page menu, you’ll find Macallan 12 Year, Macallan 18 Year and Macallan 25 Year.

On the cocktail end, the menu boasts an assortment of both classic and original cocktails. Original cocktails range from simple (the three-ingredient Smokey Pineapple) to the complex (the gin-centric The Covered Bridge).

You can find the Quadrant Bar & Lounge and The Ritz Carlton, Washington, D.C. at 1150 22nd Street.
