Dover will miss James Kageleiry and Doris Grady

Oct. 19 — To the Editor:

This past week-the City of Dover lost two giants within hours of one another.

James Kageleiry was someone that every community wishes to raise: Someone who was raised and did raise a beautiful family. Someone who dedicated decades to an Insurance career he loved, and passionately gave back to a community both in public service and community volunteerism.

The school children of Dover lost their tireless and fiercely loyal advocate this past week with the passing of Doris Grady. Mayor Weston said it best when calling her "Dover’s other City Manager." That was Doris. Always wanting to know every aspect of City politics and operations right down to the minute detail.

I had the honor and privilege of my life in serving together with Doris when we were on the city council and school board together. Our conversations were a daily occurrence and those nights when I would offer to drive her home after a long meeting are treasured gems as we talked of her storied career.

But as much as she loved the City as a whole, it was always the school children who drove her to dedicate herself as a teacher, coach and school board member. She took public service seriously and demanded the same for us all.

The corridors of power at City Hall are a little less quiet tonight with the passage of these esteemed citizens. However, the hallways are much more brighter having had their presence grace our lives and the legacy they left behind. I know my life has been blessed and the memories will live on for decades to come.
