DOVER - City officials announced Tuesday that they have canceled this year’s annual fireworks display, which had been planned for July 4.

Officials said they canceled the annual display “due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, and the uncertainty about when large gatherings of people will be permitted and safe under state and federal health guidelines.”

Other associated July 4 events and programs, including the 39th Army Band's performance at the Rotary Arts Pavilion, also have been canceled, officials said Tuesday.

Recreation Director Gary Bannon said he expects the annual fireworks display and Fourth of July events to resume next year.
